Welcome Party for Tsunami Orphans

posted in: Events, News

We will be staging a special Welcome Party this December for two of the children who lost parents and family members last year.

The event will feature the Scots Guards Brass Quintet, flute (Emi Yamamoto) and violin (Yasufumi Otsuki) performances, traditional Japanese dance (Nihonbuyo) from Tanaka Hiroko and Akemin Solloway Tanaka and a Cosplay Contest. Tickets for the event will be £10 on the door.

All profits will be donated to Aid for Japan.

The Welcome Party will take place on Tuesday 18th December 2012 between 19:30 and 21:30 at the River Side Room, Old Town Hall, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond TW9 1TP.

Why did we choose to invite these two orphans to England this Christmas?

  1. When Akemi Solloway Tanaka and her two English students funded their own trip to Japan in spring 2012, they were able to meet the two girls Kana and Maria. After they met, the English students began to exchange letters with the two girls. Both Kana and Maria are very interested in England and expressed how much they would like to visit one day. We worked very hard to raise the money to make their wish come true.
  2. So far we only could meet these two orphans. However, we are contacted by many more orphans and their carers who have an interest in the UK and the English language. In spring 2013 we will reach out to more orphans in Japan.

Aid For Japan at London Mela Festival

posted in: Events, News

Now an established highlight in the capital’s cultural calendar, the London Mela is an artistically led celebration of Asian culture and creativity, inspired by South Asia and the Diaspora.

Aid For Japan will have a presence at the festival this year to raise awareness for the charity.

This year’s O2 London Mela will be held in Gunnersbury Park on Sunday 19th August. It’s the event’s 10th birthday this year and will feature a spectacular carnival, a photographic exhibition of the Mela’s history and a concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra. There’s also plenty of activities, attractions, shows and music throughout the day.

Aid For Japan finds success at AmeCon

posted in: Events, News

AmeCon is the UK’s largest residential convention dedicated to the celebration of Japanese Animation and Comics and took place over the weekend of 10th-12th August 2012.

Every year, AmeCon supports a charity and they have generously chosen Aid For Japan as the cause they wish to support this year. As well as a Charity Auction, the event also had donation buckets throughout the weekend of the Convention. As a result, AmeCon raised £2,886.77 for Aid For Japan. Thank you to AmeCon’s organisers and all attendees!

Non-attendees can still support AmeCon’s efforts by visting their JustGiving page for the AmeCon 2012 Charity Drive on justgiving.com/amecon2012
