Doki Doki- The Manchester Japanese Festival 2015

Aid For Japan is being supported by DOKI DOKI – the annual Japanese Festival held in Manchester.

The next event is scheduled to take place on Saturday 7th November 2015 and will celebrate both traditional and modern Japanese culture. Throughout the day, there will be talks, demonstrations, parades and other events showcasing manga, anime, fashion, martial arts, film, music, games and other aspects of Japanese culture, past and present, as well as retail stalls and artist stands. Hot and cold Japanese food will also be available to festival-goers.

Doki Doki has chosen Aid For Japan as their supported charity. Aid For Japan’s founder Akemi Solloway will also be giving a talk about the charity and its aims at the event.

The festival comprises a daytime event, running from 10am (9.30am for Early-Bird ticket holders) to 7pm, followed by an evening cosplay party event, from 9pm to 2am. There is no age limit for the daytime event, but anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian (the child will get in for free). The evening event is 18+ only.

Doki Doki takes place at Sugden Sports Centre, situated near the student quarter and near Oxford Road train station. The evening event is at The Zoo nightclub, over the road from Sugden Sports Centre.

Tickets are £10 in advance, £15 on the day

Support Jackie Thomas’ Half Marathon Run

Aid For Japan is supported by the people who tirelessly volunteer their time to help. People such as Jackie Thomas, who will be running in the Bournemouth Half Marathon next month to raise funds for Aid For Japan.

As Jackie herself says: “I am running the Bournemouth half marathon for Aid For Japan for Tsunami Orphans because The children of the disaster deserve a good future”.

Japanese Cultural Talk in Support of Aid For Japan

Akemi Solloway will be conducting a lecture on Japanese Culture later this month at St John The Baptist in Kingston Vale, London.

The event takes place on Sunday 27th September and the talk will focus on the traditional Japanese religion of Shinto. There will also be a sushi and sake tasting event following the talk. The event will also be used to help raise awareness for Aid For Japan.

Kimono & Culture Evening

kimono_evening_poster-2015_version3Help us raise money for children orphaned by the March 2011 tsunami by enjoying an evening of Japanese kimono, food and music. The tickets are just £40 each and all proceeds go to Aid for Japan.

The Kimono & Culture Evening takes place on Friday, 30th October 2015 at Richmond Old Town Hall. The evening will feature a Kimono Fashion Show, combined with a Charity Presentation. This will include a thoughtful presentation on the work of our charity by two of our youngest volunteers who this summer experienced a different side of life.

Food & Drink will also be available with some delicious sushi and sake (provided by Yama Sushi)

Tickets for the Kimono & Culture Evening, which has been organised by Akemi Solloway (www.akemisolloway.com) and Elizabeth Hitchins (www.kimonostylist.co.uk), cost £40 with all proceeds going to Aid For Japan.
